Detoxification of the Digestive System
Detoxification is the cleansing of harmful toxins from the body, and is a process that every new vegetarian goes through. That’s because a carnivorous diet, usually high in fat and processed foods, tends to slow down your digestive system and interrupt your elimination processes. Harmful bacteria and toxins accumulate in your colon.
This build up of harmful bacteria and toxins can create a number of digestive disorders, like irritable bowel syndrome or colitis. When you begin eating a more healthy vegetarian diet, you get more dietary fiber into your system, your digestive system begins to work better, and you eliminate the toxins.
When you eliminate high-fat meat and processed foods from your diet, less of your body’s energy is needed to digest these foods. Everything becomes clearer – your blood, your organs, and your mind. You start to realize just how toxic your meat-eating diet was before.
Toxicity is a much greater concern now, with many new and stronger chemicals, more air and water pollution, radiation and nuclear power. We ingest new chemicals eat fatty meats, eat more sugar and refined foods, and abuse ourselves with all kinds of stimulants and sedatives. All this contributes to a higher incidence of toxicity diseases - including Cancer, arthritis, allergies, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.
Other symptoms, like headaches, fatigue, pains, coughs, gastrointestinal problems, and problems from immune weakness, can also be related to toxicity. When you start a vegetarian eating plan, your body slowly eliminates the toxins, cleansing itself of the harmful effects of toxic foods.
